What's your graphics card? How much video ram? What API are you using and which one is being restricted to 640x480?
I haven't played WW2F ever since I bought Combat Flight Simulator 2. But I do recall that I can get only 640x480 when using OpenGL with a 32mb TNT2Pro while D3D allowed 1024x768 and beyond. You can also change the texture memory amount used in the ww2.ini and change it into something higher than the 2 meg default.
While you're at it, there's also a line which enable/disable vsync. Damn that game. I bought it brand spankin' new and I NEVER GOT my damn joystick recognized on that game.
I don't know what the deal was, but after fiddling with it for several hours I grew impatient and threw it in the 'box of many games not being used'.That was what, at least a year ago?I put it on my friend's computer recently, and I had no problems with it. Nice graphics, considering when it came out. The hardest part of the game is actually controlling your plane. It's what makes the damn missions any difficult.Don't drop bombs below 200 ft, unless you like being a black mark on the grass.

It's almost 3 years old and the graphics still stand up well as far as eye candy and accuracy of detail. The only ding would be the P-38 paint job.
At that stage of the war, I doubt if they were still being painted olive drab. Most likely, they would have gone with the natural aluminum finish as with the P-51 and P-47.I still use the original Sidewinder 3d Pro I bought back in 1995. It's the most durable joystick I've ever had and it works beautifully with WW2F.Hmmm. I think I'll install WW2F again for old time's sake. I still have European Air War.
I didn't care much for the original Combat Flight Simulator. But between European Air War, WW2F, CFS2, and the upcoming Sturmovik, I'll be happy for a long while. Actually:A) My version was missing some GUI stuff. Some of the images wont load in the menu. I was therefore unable to figure out what the supported resolutions are and make those in the.ini file.B) I couldn't get off the ground at takeoff. I kept spinning round and round in circles. With the help of an admin over at WWIIFigheters web site, we were able to figure out that Gravis Gameport Joystick in win 2k makes the rudder hold all the way left no matter what (with the exception of temporary countering by right rudder keyboard key.I bought a MS precision pro joystick and everything is just fine now. What an namazing game.
Way ahead of it's time.My best creenie so far in the form of a wallpaper View image: /infopop/emoticons/iconsmile.gifClick the image for full 1280x960 or click the link below to download the.zip of the.bmp I made for the background.Download. Amazingly cool.Especially considering it's been out for 2 to 3 years.Look at that screenie! View image: /infopop/emoticons/iconeek.gif 3 years old!Anyway,I've been talking with the guys over at their message boards for a couple of days now. They're the same caliber of people you find here at Ars. Helpful, nice, smart. Etc.Check out my thread on 'Best WWII sims' in general at their message boards. These guys have all of the WWII fly games on thier shelves and this is the one they keep playing.
Just like me having UT, Q3, Hitman, Alice, etc etc etc on my HDD and I keep firing up the HL engine for some reason or another daily. There may be other games of both types the look 'a little' better or feel a 'little' better. But this one looks like the daddy. It's tons o fun man. I highly reccomend picking it up. View image: image: image: image: image: still like the one I made best View image: /infopop/emoticons/iconsmile.gifEDIT:Ack. I don't want to be at work.
I want to be fyling! View image: /infopop/emoticons/iconbiggrin.gif. USAF, IAF and 2 Novalogic games, Raptor and L3, and MS CFS. Never really liked DiD's sims so I have none of theirs.Started out with the flying game F-18 Interceptor on the miggy, then Fighter Bomber, then Falcon, Red Baron. Then came tornado which was unbearable on my 1200 View image: /infopop/emoticons/iconfrown.gifMy first multiplayer sim was CAP on the miggy. I used to take my comp to a friends house and we would duke it out over nullmodem cable, as well as flying coop, it was a blast. Also tried Warbirds, but that didn't fly.
EAW, WWII Fighters, FS: SDOE, Aces High (you can't beat it if you can afford the $30/month), Crimson Skies, AirWarrior MV.WWII Fighters is pretty cool. I remember getting my hot-rod Celery O/Cd to 450MHz with twin Voodoo2s and only getting 24fps with all detail up. Thank cod for Athlons and GeForces. Although the physics are pretty good, it lacks the detail of something like Aces High. It sure is beautiful though.
I prefer EAW just because it looks just about as nice and it gives you more planes to fly (Tempest!).I am always disappointed at the 3d model of the P-38 though. The ONLY sim that has a nice Lightning is Aces High. Unfortunately, I can't justify $30/month for a night or two/week.Yippee38. FS: SDOE has been much maligned on the web because they dumbed it down. They made the flight detail very accurate, then apparently decided that they didn't want to alienate the arcade crowd so they did things like took out spins. As a result, what could've been great is just so-so.I like it.
It's not as fun as EAW. It's got more of the Jane's feel - smaller engagements. However, the thing that really is awesome about it is the terrain. It's not flat. The hills aren't pyramids. I've flown my 38 under a bridge (and died many times trying). To be honest though, I haven't played it that much.
I used to play AirWarrior regularly, then switched to Aces High. I flew some EAW offline. I think I'm kinda burnt out on flight sims now though. Maybe when I get my new pots in my stick, I'll try it out again.BTW, it looks nice enough that if you can find it cheap, it's worth picking up.Yippee3. Then, there was Jaeger's Fighter Duel, again also on the Amiga. But the very first sim I played was Jet! Followed by F-19 Steath Fighter both on a Tandy 8088 pc. Then Aces of the Pacific and SWOL came out.
Those two made me decide to stick with a pc. If you like WW2F that much. You might want to try it's other competitors at the time of its release like EAW, MS CFS, and FS:SDOE. I didn't care much for MS CFS and SDOE. But EAW is worth a look if you can find it still esp since it has a dynamic campaign built-in. Then I've always wanted WW2F with an official Pacific Theater setting.
No luck with that one. But MS CFS2 comes pretty close. Here's a screenie 1280x1024x32bpp - 800x640View image: http://content.communities.msn.com/Secure/0OAAgAJUTOzOu2UcxDTHRD1.QtElzPgDXB3xyMCI4bZAdBmTkGCDzEDbDINnqTu4o4bNQ0i4JtLoZ9htwLBQn9RWF2JBCraSq/2zekes.jpg.
